  • Easter Eggs From Men's Silk Ties

Just in time for EASTER .  I've decorated many eggs over the years but this is my favorite technique and they are made from men's silk ties.    They are fun to make, even with children, and can be given as gifts!  Thanks to MARTHA STWEART.   Here are the instructions but there is a video available too on her website:

  • First Outdoor Glimpse of Our Beautiful Home on the Island of Tenerife

Here the tour begins…Notice the beat up awnings and old delapidated Spanish clay roof tiles.  Also the walkway was painted green!  The windows that you see are in the old kitchen which actually had a door too that we removed.  Aluminum sided windows I suppose were the rage in the 60's. (…)

  • Handmade Spanish Clay Floor Tiles

Today I thought I'd share with you the different floor designs used in our home indoors and out.  The floors are handmade Spanish clay tile.  The dark large squares outside are handmade volcanic rock (characteristic of the Canary Islands) used for the stairs, around the pool and pathway. (…)

We used glass block and tumbled marble in both of the baths.
The idea to use broken marble for the vanities and shower stalls was because this size marble was reasonably priced but the smaller pieces weren't, so I improvised and broke the tiles with a hammer.!  Sometimes it pays to be a mosaic artist.  This gives the bathrooms both a rustic and artsy look, don't you think ?  "Necesity is the Mother of Invention". This is my magnificent mirror  bar.  I'm sure we all agree, having an outdoor kitchen is really fantastic, if you have an indoor one that is.   The problem here was I had to wait two full years before I had an indoor kitchen!  It has a rustic flair because we used recycled telephone poles and wall-to-wall stone.  I'll be showing you step-by-step from start to finish photos on how I did the bar.  The best part is, all the mirrors were  curbside treasures so there was very little cost involved.  People tend to throw out mirrors that break, and I tend to break mirrors that people throw out!  Anyhow, I hope you like it! Looky here what I found on the curb!  Isn't this small chair adorable?  As you can see it needed some work.  After working on the woodwork with wood putty and stain, I decided to upholster it in a unique way, with layers of different textures of fabric.  To top it off, I had these small satin bullfighter capes that were Spanish souvenirs in the 70's and they give it the Spanish flair I was talking about!  I love it and the best part is it was   F-R-E-E!
